Bismuth
By Davis Williams
Loving Bismuth, atomic number 83, bold
Prime atomic numbers are rare like gold
Crystallizing into iridescent rainbow pyramid mazes
On the dazzling scale bismuth no doubt slays this
Half life longer than the age of the universe
It finds radioactivity classifications quite humorous
Kind of radioactive and kind of not
Bismuth likes both options quite a lot
Still, nucleus is stable, maintaining its poise
Playing it cool around the boys
Frequently used in fire alarm and sprinkler system
It’s applications are too numerous to list them
Heartburn nausea or stomach pains?
Pepto-bismol heals due to what it contains
The active ingredient being Bismuth-Subsalicylate,
careful or bismuth's love will raise your heart rate
Surrounded by arsenic, polonium and lead too
Bismuth is a post-transition metal through and through
Bismuth’s neighborhood can be so toxic
But unlike its group, bismuth makes you not sick
You’d think this group would hurt bismuth’s mindset
But behold, beloved bismuth -blissfully benign- yet
Although it is a metal, it is diamagnetic
Resisting conductivity both thermal and electric
Because of this, Bi is a very special element
And its properties are very eloquent
What is my article topic this month?
Thats none of your bismuth.
